ERYTHROCYTE OXIDATIVE METABOLISM AND ERITROGRAM IN MASTITIS INDUCED BY STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS ON GOATS WITH ADMINISTRATION OF VITAMIN E.

Resumo: | The oxidative boom of neutrophils to infection reaction can result in cellular injury and lead to inflammatory disease anemia, among other disorders. The glutathione system and the vitamin E are antioxidants that disable free radicals. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the effects of administration of vitamin E on erythrogram and erithrocyte reduced glutathione (GSH) of 28 Saanen goats, experimentally challenged Staphylococcus aureus trough intramammary route, ten days after parturition. The animals had between ten and sixteen months of age, had their first deliver by the time of the experiment and were randomly divided in four groups: control (CG), vitamin E supplementation (VG), inoculated with S. aureus (MG) and inoculated with S. aureus and vitamin E supplementation and (VMG). It could be concluded that inoculation of S.aureus in mamary glands of Saanen goats produce no change on erythrogram and on erythrocytic reduced glutathione concentration, and the vitamin E causes a better erythrocyte response in goats.KEY WORDS: Erythrocytes, glutathione, goats, vitamin E. |

O sistema glutationa e a vitamina E são antioxidantes que inativam os radicais livres. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar os efeitos da administração de vitamina E sobre o eritrograma e a glutationa reduzida eritrocitária (GSH) de cabras desafiadas com a inoculação intramamária de Staphylococcus aureus ao décimo dia pós-parto. Foram usadas 28 cabras, primíparas, da raça Saanen, na faixa etária de dez a dezesseis meses, distribuídas, aleatoriamente, para quatro tratamentos, cada um com sete animais, como segue: controle (TC), suplementação com vitamina E (TV), desafio por Staphylococcus aureus (TM) e suplementação com vitamina-E e desafio por S.aureus (TVM).
