Resumo: The aim of the present work was to analyze the macroscopic anatomical characteristics of the bovine placenta, Bos taurus indicus, raised in the Oriental Amazonian area accomplishing a profile of these to the regional herd maintained in the Amazonian climatic and environmental conditions. Pregnant uteri of zebu cows were collected in different gestation ages (4 to 8 months). Each uterus was washed in running water and the intercornual ligament was cut, separating the uterine horns. A section along the cervix to the body of the uterus was accomplished. So, the fetal membranes were exposed and they were perforated removing the fetal liquids and the fetus. The piece was inverted to collect the referring morphologic characteristics data. Soon after, it was set in a 10% formalian solution, for subsequent dissection. To the total counting of the placentomes, a pin was placed individually in each structure, repeating the same procedure in both horns. The results for the variables: amount of the placentome and the time of gestation were submitted to statistical analysis. The overall placentomes found in 30 placentas was 2650, varying from an uterine horn to another, with average of 88.33. In the pregnant horn there were 1602 placentomes, with average of 53.40 for placenta (60.45%) and in the no pregnant horn there were 1048, with average of 34.93 for placenta (39.55%). Analyzing the placentomes in different pregnant ages it was observed  a gradual increasing in the amount of these, however this increasing variation was not statistically significant (r = 0.2). The placentomes classified as small were predominant mainly in the beginning of pregnancy but the amount decreases in the following months of the pregnancy giving place to the medium and big placentomes. However, that reduction is only statistically significant in the pregnant horn. Most of the observed placentomes were in the oval shaped, independent of the gestation period. Thus, placental morphological characteristics from zebuine cattle from Oriental Amazonian region are similar to those found in zebu from other places with different climate and environment, so the placenta does not seem to be influenced by the ambient.KEY WORDS: Placentome, umbilical cord, uterus, Zebu cow.
