Resumo: | Permanent contact with the outside world began for the Yanomami Indiansduring the 1970s. The results of this contact are revealed in the lexicons of theYanomami languages in the use of new words for objects introduced by the“whiteman”. The following article analyzes borrowings from Portuguese andneologisms in one of these languages to illustrate some phonological,morphological, and semantic aspects of the language as well as the areas ofgreatest cultural influence resulting from this contact. |
