Resumo: The article sheds light on two chronicles from the series bons dias!, by Machado de Assis. Combining discourse analysis with the potential of the literary text, it focuses on the ethos and scenography of the rio de janeiro elite in the period of the enactment of the abolition of slavery. It is based on the concepts of ethos and scenography and on its emergence in the chronicles of april 19, 1888 and may 19, 1888. Both chronicles present, as narrators, men belonging to the rio de janeiro elite, whose ethos is exposed in the conviction their superiority over blacks.

Se basa en los conceptos de ethos y escenografía y en su surgimiento en las crónicas del 19 de abril de 1888 y del 19 de mayo de 1888. Ambas crónicas presentan, como narradores, a hombres pertenecientes a la élite carioca, cuyo ethos se expone en el convicción de su superioridad sobre los negros.O artigo lança luz sobre duas crônicas da série bons dias!, de Machado de Assis. Aliando a análise de discurso à potencialidade do texto literário, enfoca o ethos e a cenografia da elite fluminense no período da promulgação da abolição da escravatura. Ele se baseia nos conceitos de ethos e de cenografia e em sua emergência nas crônicas de 19 de abril de 1888 e de 19 de maio de 1888.
