Silva freire and the poetics of matrix-words: resonances of the process//poem

Resumo: Silva Freire watched the development of poetic avant-gardes in the 60s and 70s: Concretism, Intensivism and the Process//Poem. Although the poet did not orthodoxly follow any of them, his works reinterpreted some formal experiments of these movements. For example, there are many studies showing how aesthetical assumptions of Concretism and Intensivism reverberate in Freire’s writings, mainly in the construction of “poetic blocks”. However, little has been said about how the poetic avant-gardes influenced another rhetoric procedure used by the poet: the “matrix-words”. Considering this gap, this paper analyzes to what extent Freire’s matrix works are in accordance to the assumptions of the Process//Poem.

Aunque no se ha vinculado ortodoxamente a ninguna de ellas, su obra se apropia de algunos experimentalismos formales de esos movimientos. Hay, por ejemplo, numerosos estudios que demuestran cómo los supuestos estéticos del Concretismo y del Intensivismo encuentran resonancia en la escritura freireana, sobre todo en la construcción de “bloques poemáticos”. A pesar de eso, poco se dijo sobre cómo las vanguardias impactaron otro expediente retórico usado por el poeta: las “palabras-matrices”. Considerando esa laguna, en el presente artículo se analiza en qué medida las palabras-matrices freireanas se articulan con las postulaciones del Poema//Proceso.Silva Freire assistiu ao desenvolvimento de vanguardas poéticas dos anos 60 e 70: o Concretismo, o Intensivismo e o Poema//Processo. Embora não tenha se vinculado ortodoxamente a nenhuma delas, sua obra se apropria de alguns experimentalismos formais desses movimentos. Há, por exemplo, bastantes estudos demonstrando como pressupostos estéticos do Concretismo e do Intensivismo encontram ressonância na escrita freireana, sobretudo na construção em “blocos poemáticos”. Pouco se disse, porém, sobre como as vanguardas impactaram outro expediente retórico usado pelo poeta: as “palavras-matrizes”.
