Resumo: This work is related to the Toponymic Atlas from the State of Maranhão and is based on lexicon studies, Onomastics, Toponymy field, with the objective to analyze the morphological structure of the oronyms from Tasso Fragoso-MA, as well as the iconic aspects that underlie the motivation for choosing the names of these landforms. The results point to the high recurrence to the use of nouns to name places and reveal metonymy as a basic process to refer to these physical accidents of the names in study.

Los resultados apuntan para la alta recurrencia del uso de substantivos para denominar los lugares y descubren la metonimia como un proceso básico para referenciar esos accidentes físicos de los nombres en estudio.Este trabalho relaciona-se ao Atlas Toponímico do Estado do Maranhão e baseia-se nos estudos do léxico, Onomástica, campo da Toponímia, com o objetivo de analisar a estrutura morfológica dos orônimos do município de Tasso Fragoso-MA, bem como os aspectos icônicos que subjazem à motivação na escolha dos nomes desses acidentes geográficos.
