“The dog without feathers” and the Sartrian traditionontology

Resumo: Having the essays published by Jean-Paul Sartre in the 1940s as a starting point, we analyze “O cão sem plumas” (“The Dog without Feathers”), by João Cabral de Melo Neto (1950). We seek to observe if its forms and materials mean or do not mean the word, designating it as an undeclared representation of the real universe. The problematization of the limits between poetry and prose broadens the construction of the social universe resignified via literature. Complex semantic constructions and figures of speech which constitute the allusive game played by Cabral, especially the metaphor, indicate that the use of figurative writing does not move in totum the Speaker away from a transparent or even an utilitarian employment of language.

Observamos si sus formas y materiales significan o no la palabra, demarcándola como la representación no-declarada del universo real. La problematización de los límites entre poesía y prosa ensancha la construcción del universo social resignificado por la literatura. Construcciones semánticas complejas y figuras de lenguaje constitutivas del juego alusivo cabralino, sobretodo de la metáfora, indican que al servirse de la escrita figurada, el sujeto poético no se aleja in totum del lenguaje usado de forma transparente o utilitaria.A partir de ensaios publicados por Jean-Paul Sartre na década de 1940, analisamos “O cão sem plumas”, de João Cabral de Melo Neto (1950). Buscamos observar se as suas formas e matérias significam ou não a palavra, assinalando-a como representação não-declarada do universo real. A problematização dos limites entre poesia e prosa amplia a construção do universo social ressignificado via literatura.
