Assessment of regional landscape characteristics - an alternative model

Resumo: The use and occupation of the landscapes without adequate planning and management has generated negative impacts, with damages mainly at the ecological, economic and social levels. Although there are several universal and regional systems for assessing the landscapes structure (focusing on physical attributes), many of these systems fail to translate the complexity inserted into the scale of planning addressed. The present study aims to present alternative proposals for evaluating and classifying the types of landscapes (uses and occupations), through the interrelation of the landscape structure and its natural attributes, with a simplified methodology for environmental planning, adapted to geographically differentiated complexities. The theoretical and operational models used here were elaborated and applied during the research activities of the authors of the present study, related to spatial planning, geographic information technologies and nature conservation, developed at the Center for Geography and Spatial Planning Studies of the University of Coimbra (CEGOT Portugal), and in the Regional Studies Group ‘GERA’ of the University of the State of Paraná (UNESPAR).

Aunque existen numerosos modelos universales y regionales para evaluar la estructura de los paisajes (centrados en sus condicionantes naturales), muchos de ellos no logran traducir la complejidad que encierra la escala de planificación abordada. Este estudio pretende presentar propuestas alternativas para la evaluación y clasificación de diferentes paisajes, a través de la interrelación de la estructura del paisaje y sus condicionantes naturales, con una metodología simplificada con fines de planificación ambiental, adaptada a situaciones geográficamente complejas. Los modelos teóricos y operativos utilizados fueron elaborados y aplicados durante las actividades de investigación de los autores del presente estudio, relacionadas con la ordenación del territorio, las tecnologías de la información geográfica y la conservación de la naturaleza, llevadas a cabo en el Centro de Estudios de Geografía y Ordenación del Territorio, de la Universidad de Coimbra (CEGOT Portugal), y en el Grupo "Estudios del Paisaje Regional - GERA", de la Universidad Estatal de Paraná (UNESPAR).O uso das paisagens sem um planejamento e gestão adequados pode gerar consequências negativas, com impactos, sobretudo, ao nível ecológico, económico e social. Embora existam inúmeros modelos universais e regionais de avaliação da estrutura das paisagens (com foco nos seus condicionalismos naturais), muitos destes modelos não conseguem traduzir a complexidade inserida na escala de planejamento abordada. O presente estudo visa apresentar propostas alternativas de avaliação e classificação das diferentes paisagens, por meio da inter-relação da estrutura das paisagens e seus condicionalismos naturais, com uma metodologia simplificada para fins de planejamento ambiental, adaptada a situações geograficamente complexas.
