A produção de milho no sudoeste goiano: espacialização, cadeia produtiva e complementaridade

The concept of the productive chain is constituted by a set of economic and commercial actions that consist in valorization of the means of production and in the succession of operations of transformations, capable of being separated and linked by technical chaining and by financial and commercial relations. An agroindustrial production chain can be divided upstream (end product) and upstream (raw material); in the case of the maize chain, the limits of this view are sometimes not readily identifiable. The general objective of the research was to analyze the production of maize in the context of regional agricultural production, identifying to the areas of planting, the technologies used, the producing properties, the purposes of production and the production in the areas of peasant agriculture. Specific objectives include: (i) understanding and identifying the process of formation of the productive chain, identifying public policies, the process of arriving at the package known as the Green Revolution and modernizing the field to understand the formation logic of Southwest Goiás; and (ii) demonstrate the production chain of maize in the Southwest of Goiás, analyzing the chain within the regional reality. The methodological procedures were based on a bibliographical review of important geographic concepts (region, territory and landscape), as well as the evolution of the Brazilian countryside and the insertion of the Midwest in the country's agricultural dynamics. In addition, the research was based on the collection of secondary and primary data, through research in official publications (FAO, IBGE and IMB) and field work, which allowed a more critical and sensitive view of the maize production chain. In summary, it was possible to identify the complex relationships present in the chain under study, as well as the large-scale production of maize and the concentration of land in the study area.
