Resumo: This article presents results of a research whose objective was to analyze the work of the social worker in the Public Defenders of the Union (DPU/CE), focusing on the feasibility of benefits rejected by the National Social Security Institute (INSS) through social expertise, considered the "flagship" of the Social Work process in the institution, with the increase in the judicialization of social rights. The research, of a qualitative nature, had social assistants working in the DPU/CE, involving bibliographical, documentary and field studies, with questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The dialectical method was used, which also bases the social studies carried out by the interviewees, who, when analyzing the social reality in a critical way, are guided by principles of the ethical-political project of the profession, among which are the defense of rights working class and commitment to the quality of services provided.

A pesquisa, de natureza qualitativa, teve como sujeitos assistentes sociais que atuam na DPU/CE, envolvendo estudos bibliográficos, documentais e de campo, com questionários e entrevistas semiestruturadas.
