Transformations of the Heritage Landscape Induced by Urban and Tourist Public Policies in Public Spaces in the City of São Luís (Maranhão)

Resumo: This paper is dedicated to collaborate with a discussion pertinent to the investigative interests of geography science, because it brings to light an analysis of the transformation processes that the urban space goes through. In this sense, the city of São Luís (Maranhão, Brazil) was used as an analytical spatial cutout of the referred phenomenon, in a specific way, through the João Lisboa Square and the Largo do Carmo, environments located in the historical center of the capital of Maranhão that is recognized as world heritage city by UNESCO. Thus, these are places of utmost relevance to the local society, since they preserve a patrimonial landscape, dating from the colonial period of the city. Thus, we have as research objective: to analyze the landscape changes of these areas from tourism-related interventions. To succeed, we carried out bibliographic research, analysis of public policies, and field activities. As a result, it was found that although the places preserve their landscape configurations, due to their listing, their dynamics of use and occupation were modified by the insertion of tourism in the places.

En ese sentido, la ciudad de São Luís (Maranhão, Brasil) fue utilizada como recorte espacial analítico del fenómeno, específicamente, a través de la Praça João Lisboa y Largo do Carmo, ambientes ubicados en el centro histórico de la capital de Maranhão que se reconoce como patrimonio de la humanidad por la UNESCO. Así, son lugares de suma importancia para la sociedad local, ya que conservan un paisaje patrimonial, que data de la época colonial de la ciudad. Así, nuestro objetivo de investigación es analizar los cambios paisajísticos en estas zonas a partir de las intervenciones turísticas. Para el éxito se realizaron investigaciones bibliográficas, análisis de políticas públicas y actividades de campo. Como resultado se encontró que si bien los lugares conservan sus configuraciones paisajísticas, debido a su inclinación, sus dinámicas de uso y ocupación fueron modificadas por la inserción del turismo en los lugares.Este trabalho está dedicado a colaborar com uma discussão pertinente aos interesses investigativos da ciência geográfica, pois, traz à tona uma análise a respeito dos processos de transformação pelos quais passam o espaço urbano. Nesse sentido, usou-se como recorte espacial analítico do referido fenômeno, a cidade de São Luís (Maranhão, Brasil), de maneira específica, através da praça João Lisboa e o Largo do Carmo, ambientes localizados no centro histórico da capital maranhense que é reconhecido como patrimônio mundial pela UNESCO. Destarte, tratam-se de locais de suma relevância para a sociedade local, pois preservam uma paisagem patrimonial, que datam do período colonial da urbe. Assim, temos como objetivo de pesquisa: analisar as alterações paisagísticas dessas áreas a partir de intervenções de cunho turístico. Para êxito, realizou-se pesquisa bibliográfica, análise em políticas públicas e atividades de campo.
