Resumo: | The analysis of the book Elegias de Sexto Propércio, translated by Guilherme Gontijo Flores and published by Autêntica Editora in 2014 (528 p.), is facilitated by the discussion about translation theories found in the afterword of the book, in which the translator also exposes his own translational choices. Although not as well known among us as other Latin poets, as Horace or Ovid, Propertius had already drawn the attention, for example, of Ezra Pound, who proposed a creative translation of some his poems in Homage to Sextus Propertius (1916). Now, the full translation into Portuguese of Propertius’ elegies contributes to the permanence and dissemination of the Latin text, being an important contribution for both Portuguese language poetry and the reception of the classics in Brazil. |
