Resumo: This article aims to analyze images as a militant gesture in the Brazilian documentary América Armada (Alice Lanari and Pedro Asbeg, 2018). The feature film presents the performance of three social activists, who live in different Latin American countries: Teresita Gaviria, in Colombia; Raull Santiago, in Brazil; and Heriberto Paredes, in Mexico. These characters exercise their militancy through the production of images, denouncing the impacts of armed violence on part of the population of their countries. The approach proposed for the analysis of the documentary is developed from three methodological axes: 1) the reparation-image, understood in the context of the Colombian character; 2) the shield-image, understood within the scope of the Brazilian character; 3) the vestige-image, interpreted according to the reality of the Mexican character. Thus, the approximations between violent experiences and the forms of resistance practiced by Latin American citizens are understood, revealing the way in which the images of América Armada act as a militant gesture as they are constituted in the images produced by the activists who are featured in the documentary. This happens through framing, camera movements and editing, expressing nuances of social denunciation and political resistance.
