The distribution of enrolments in higher education through Minas Gerais: socioeconomic background of its regions and students' profile

Resumo: | The objective of this research is to analyze the socioeconomic formation of the state of Minas Gerais and relate it to the characteristics of the students enrolled in face-to-face higher education institutions in the year 2018. As a result, we note that in the regions concentrated in the north of the state, with more poverty and with a mostly black population, higher education has lower enrollment rates and is absent in certain subregions. In these areas, the presence of black and female students is higher. In the southern regions of the state, with high enrollment rates, white students are the majority. In the public sector of these regions, the prevalence is of male and white students, while in the private sector, the groups with the highest percentages are white female students. Our results demonstrate that the state of Minas Gerais is marked by what Lélia Gonzalez called a “racial division of space”, extremely disadvantageous for the black population |

Como resultado, observamos que, en las regiones concentradas en el norte del estado, pobres y con una población mayoritariamente negra, la educación superior tiene menores tasas de matrícula y está ausente en ciertas microrregiones. En estas áreas, la presencia de estudiantes negros y mujeres es mayor. En las regiones del sur del estado, con altas tasas de matrícula, los estudiantes blancos son mayoría. En el sector público de estas regiones, la prevalencia es de estudiantes varones y blancos, mientras que, en el sector privado, los grupos con los porcentajes más altos son estudiantes mujeres blancas. Nuestros resultados demuestran que el estado de Minas Gerais está marcado por lo que Lélia González llamó una “división racial del espacio”, extremadamente desventajosa para la población negra.O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar a formação socioeconômica do estado de Minas Gerais e relacioná-la com as características de perfil dos estudantes matriculados em instituições de ensino superior presenciais no ano de 2018. Como resultado notamos que nas regiões concentradas ao norte do estado, pobres e com população em sua maioria negra o ensino superior apresentou menores taxas de matrículas e se revelou ausente em determinadas microrregiões. Nessas áreas a presença de estudantes negros e do sexo feminino é superior. Já nas regiões mais ao sul do estado, com altas taxas de matrículas, os estudantes brancos estavam em maioria. No setor público dessas regiões a prevalência foi de estudantes do sexo masculino e brancos, já no privado os grupos com maiores percentuais de estudantes brancos do sexo feminino.
