Resumo: In this work, we propose a reflection on the historical development of the Western notion of knowledge, which culminates in the constitution of modern thought, based on Cartesian thought and scientific methodology; as well as about the critical moment this model is going through, in which its irreducible limitations are revealed in a more forceful way and its saturation, inexorable. Since this conception of knowledge structures the school institution, we try to evaluate the possibilities of a conception of education that is not strictly based on the principles of the modern paradigm. This reflection is inspired by some elements of Edgar Morin's complex thinking and the ideas of interdisciplinarity, notably as conceived by Ivani Fazenda.

Dado que esta concepción del conocimiento estructura la institución escolar, intentamos evaluar las posibilidades de una concepción de la educación que no se base estrictamente en los principios del paradigma moderno. Esta reflexión se inspira en algunos elementos del pensamiento complejo de Edgar Morin y de las ideas de interdisciplinariedad, en particular tal como las concibe Ivani Fazenda.Propomos, neste trabalho, uma reflexão acerca do desenrolar histórico da noção ocidental de conhecimento, que culmina na constituição do pensamento moderno, calcado no pensamento cartesiano e na metodologia científica; bem como sobre o momento crítico por qual esse modelo passa, em que suas limitações irredutíveis se revelam de modo mais contundentes e sua saturação, inexorável. Uma vez que essa concepção de conhecimento estrutura a instituição escolar, procuramos avaliar as possibilidades de uma educação que não seja estritamente calcada nos princípios do paradigma moderno.
