Resumo: | Introduction: Breastfeeding is considered one of the fundamental pillars to the promotion and protection of children health. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and conditioning factors of breastfeeding in the first six months of life. Materials and Methods: The study is characterized as descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional with a quantitative approach, performed with 165 mother-infant binomials, assisted in Basic Health Units. A structured questionnaire was used to collect sociodemographic and anthropometric variables mothers and infants. The nutritional status of infants was classified by the indicator of body mass index by age and the diagnosis of the nutritional status of mothers by body mass index. Infant food consumption was analyzed using food consumption marker forms. Conditioning factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding were considered as variables that maintained p < 0.05. Results: It was observed that factors related to the infant, age and early introduction of other foods were associated as exposure factors responsible for the increase in the occurrence of interruption of exclusive breastfeeding. Regarding to exposure factors related to the mother, the education, family income and age significantly contributed to the occurrence of interruption of exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusions: The results show that breastfeeding is susceptible to socioeconomic, physiological and behavioral conditions. Most of these conditioning factors found can be modified through public policies for adequate monitoring throughout the prenatal period, with actions to promote exclusive breastfeeding. |
