Resumo: Introduction: Cancer treatment can be a challenging experience for patients, especially when dealing with clinical complications. In Brazil, the Unified Health System (SUS) offers therapies and care to cancer patients, and it is necessary to investigate the amount of both over time. Objective: To evaluate the treatment for clinical complications and intercurrences related to cancer in the SUS between 2013 and 2021. Methods: An ecological study was carried out with data collected from the Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS). Two hospital procedures related to the treatment of clinical complications and intercurrences resulting from cancer were selected, examining the temporal tendency and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic at a 5% significance level. Results: In the last nine years, more than two million procedures for complications and clinical intercurrences were carried out in the SUS. There was a significantly increasing tendency in the treatment of clinical complications (p = 0.001), while the treatment of intercurrences showed stationarity (p = 0.065). However, there was a significant reduction in the annual number during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, whether in the treatment of clinical complications (p <0.001) or intercurrences (p <0.001). At last, a significant, positive and moderate correlation was observed between both procedures in the SUS during the investigated period (p = 0.043, ρ = 0.700). Conclusion: The number of procedures to treat clinical complications of cancer patients in the SUS has increased in the last nine years, being reduced in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
