DEVELOPMENT OF FAST-GROWING FOREST SPECIES UNDER DIFFERENT SITE CONDITIONS FOR RECOMPOSITION OF RIPARIAN FORESTS

Resumo: This study evaluated the development of Acacia mangium Willd., Croton floribundus Spreng., Mimosa scabrella Benth., Senna multijuga (Rich.) Irwin et Barn and Trema micrantha (L.) Blume within riparian forest planted under three site conditions. The areas are situated near the Camargos and Itutinga Reservoirs in the State of Minas Gerais. Height, stem diameter at ground level and crown areas of the plants were measured at 28, 34 and 39 months. Physical and chemical characteristics of soil, slope and soil moisture were analyzed. The soils of sites 1 and 2 are Una-Variant Latosol and site 3 is litholic soil. The largest growth occurred on site 1, followed by sites 3 and 2. Acacia mangium showed greatest growth on all three sites. Croton floribundus and Mimosa scabrella proved to be poorly adapted to the moisture regime of site 2, being sensitive to water deficits. Senna multijuga and Trema micrantha also proved sensitive to water deficit on site 3.
