Resumo: The number of plants per plot is extremely important for accurate results. The objective of this work to find the optimal size for experiments of coffee seedling cultivar Rubi MG 1192. The experiment was installed at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology, South of Minas Gerais, campus Machado. The plants were arranged in 14 rows with 14 plants in each row were discarded the first and last row and the first and last line, which had surround function. Were used, so that 144 seedlings individually characterized the basic units (BU). Assessments were made when the plants reached the final sixth pair of leaves, and the response variables were collected. Each of the 144 UB 14 was used to simulate different sizes of plots to 1UB 72UB was not considered a form of plots. For each of these groups was calculated and the coefficient of variation. It was found that the optimum plot size useful for experiments with coffee seedlings of the cultivar Rubi MG 1192 varies from 2 to 8 plants per plot, according to the study variable.

O objetivou deste trabalho é encontrar o tamanho ótimo para experimentos de mudas de cafeeiro da cultivar Rubi MG 1192. O experimento foi instalado no Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Sul de Minas Gerais (IFSULDEMINAS), campus Machado. As plantas foram dispostas em 14 fileiras com 14 plantas em cada linha. Foram descartadas a primeira e última fileira e a primeira e última linha, as quais tiveram função de bordadura. Utilizaram-se, portanto, 144 mudas que individualmente caracterizavam as unidades básicas (UB). As avaliações ocorreram quando as plantas atingiram o sexto par de folhas definitivo e as variáveis respostas foram coletadas. Cada uma das 144 UB foi utilizada para simular 14 diferentes tamanhos de parcelas de 1UB até 72UB. Não foi considerada a forma das parcelas. Para cada um desses agrupamentos foi calculado o coeficiente de variação médio.
