Resumo: The aims of this research were: to analyze the economic feasibility of planting eucalyptus for producing wood pulp, considering various site index and two spacings; to analyze the economic effects regarding the profitability of the forest activity in different distances from the industry and changes on discount rate, wood price, transportation costs, minimum profitable diameter of logs and the length of the logs. A biometric model for making wood volume prognosis was developed, using data of a trial of Eucalyptus grandis stands 19 and 103 months old. The prognosis started at the age zero, considering logs of 2.5 and 6.0 m of length and the minimum diameter varying from 4 to 10 cm, in intervals of 2 cm. Net Present Worth (NPW) was used as the economic decision criterium, considering an infinite horizon. The main conclusions were: reducing the minimum profitable diameter and the length of the logs are good strategies to increase wood utilization and profit; plantations located in less productive lands are economically unfeasible; the cost of transportation has significant effect on the profitability of the forest activity and must be analyzed carefully at the moment of defining the location of new plantations; small variations on wood sales price may cause big alterations on the profitability of the forest activity, suggesting that the improvement of the wood quality together with other decisions that may increase wood price are alternatives that may render the plantations in less productive areas profitable.

Desenvolveu-se um modelo biométrico para prognosticar o volume de madeira utilizando-se dados provenientes de parcelas instaladas em plantios de Eucalyptus grandis para a produção de celulose, com as idades de medição variando de 19 a 103 meses. A prognose do volume foi realizada a partir da idade zero, considerando o seccionamento do fuste em toras com 2,5 e 2,8 m de comprimento para diâmetros mínimos aproveitáveis de 4 a 10 cm, em intervalos de 2 cm. Para a análise econômica utilizou-se o critério do Valor Presente Líquido (VPL), calculado para um horizonte de planejamento considerado infinito. As principais conclusões foram: reduzir o diâmetro mínimo aproveitável do fuste e o comprimento das toras em que o mesmo é seccionado é uma boa estratégia para aumentar o aproveitamento de madeira e o lucro; os plantios situados em terras pouco produtivas são inviáveis economicamente; o custo de transporte tem efeito significativo na lucratividade da atividade florestal, devendo ser analisado com cuidado no momento de definir regiões com potencial para novos plantios; pequenas mudanças no preço de venda da madeira provocam grandes alterações na lucratividade da atividade florestal, sugerindo que a melhoria da qualidade da madeira, juntamente com outras medidas que visem aumentar o preço desse produto, são alternativas que podem viabilizar o plantio em áreas pouco produtivas e aumentar o lucro dos plantios das áreas mais produtivas.Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA)2015-09-132017-08-01T20:13:46Z2017-08-01T20:13:46Z2017-08-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfapplication/pdfOLIVEIRA, A.
