Foi também estudada a expressão de heterose e o potencial comercial de híbridos obtidos entre estas linhagens. No estudo de capacidade combinatória, o material genético foi constituído de 6 híbridos experimentais, em esquema de dialelo parcial, constituído de três genitores masculinos (grupo I, com altos teores de acilaçúcares) e dois genitores femininos (grupo II, com baixos teores). Foram avaliadas as seguintes características: massa média de fruto (g.fruto-1) e produção por hectare (t.ha-1). As linhagens TOM-687 e TOM-688 (ricas em AA e resistentes a pragas) apresentaram maiores estimativas dos efeitos de capacidade geral de combinação para massa média de frutos relativamente a TOM-689 (também rica em acilaçúcares), e não diferiram desta última quanto à capacidade combinatória para produção. Também quando foram utilizadas como genitoras, principalmente em combinação com a linhagem elite TOM-684, foram obtidos os melhores híbridos. Numa segunda etapa, foi estudado o potencial agronômico de híbridos de tomateiro obtidos a partir da linhagem TOM-687, rica em acilaçúcares e de resistência comprovada a pragas. Foi constituído de 30 genótipos (5 híbridos comerciais, 1 linhagem pré-comercial TOM-687 e 24 híbridos, nos quais TOM-687 foi utilizada como um dos pais), os quais foram conduzidos em tutoramento com haste dupla, no espaçamento de 1,30 x 0,50 m, totalizando 15.385 plantas por hectare. Foram realizadas nove colheitas, entre as datas de 01/11/2008 a 28/11/2008. Foram avaliadas as seguintes características agronômicas: massa média por fruto (g.fruto-1) e produção por hectare (t.ha-1). Os 24 híbridos, que tiveram TOM-687, como um dos pais apresentaram potencial produtivo, similares aos das testemunhas comerciais Débora Max, Bravo, Bônus, Kombat e Atyna. Dos 24 híbridos experimentais em que a linhagem rica em acilaçúcares TOM-687 foi genitora, quatro (TEX-298, TEX-310, TEX-315 e TEX-316) foram escolhidos para avaliação quanto à resistência a traça do tomateiro Tuta absoluta e mostraram-se mais resistentes à traça do que as testemunhas comerciais, demonstrando que híbridos com uma linhagem genitora rica em acilaçúcares possuem nível satisfatório de resistência à praga.This work aimed at estimating the combining abilities of tomato lines with contrasting leaf acylsugar contents and contrasting levels of pest resistance, and to assess heterosis and commercial potential of hybrids obtained from these lines. For the combining ability assessment, the genetic material comprised six experimental hybrids, in a partial diallel cross, with three lines as male (group I) parents (with high acylsugar contents), and two lines as seed (group II) parents (with low acylsugars). Traits evaluated were mean fruit mass (g. fruit-1) and total fruit yield (t.ha-1). Acylsugar-rich lines TOM-687 and TOM-688 had better general combining abilities for fruit mass than the acylsugar-rich line TOM-689, but the three lines did not differ from each other in general combining ability for yield. The best hybrids were obtained from combinations of TOM-687 and TOM-688 with the elite line TOM-684. In a second experiment, we assessed the commercial potential of tomato hybrids obtained from line TOM-687, an acylsugar-rich pest-resistant line used as a parent. The experiment comprised 30 genotypes (5 commercial hybrids, the pre-commercial line TOM-687, and 24 hybrids in which TOM-687 was used as a parent), that were evaluated as a staked crop, with a spacing of 1.30 m x 0.50 m (equivalent to 15385 plants per hectare). Nine harvests were made betwen 01/November/2008 and 28/November/2008. Traits evaluated were mean fruit mass (g. fruit-1) and total fruit yield (t.ha-1). The 24 hybrids with TOM-687 as a parent had similar agronomic performance than the commercial hybrid checks Débora Max, Bravo, Bônus, Kombat and Atyna.
