A implantação do programa de capacitação de novos usuários na modalidade virtual da Biblioteca Universitária da UFLA: relato de experiência

This experience report presents the implementation of the New Users Training Program (NUTP) created by the Federal University of Lavras Library (BU/UFLA) in a virtual mode. The traditional classroom PCNU has existed since 2004 and was created with the purpose of informing students recently admitted to the University about the rules, the collections, the services and the procedures of the library. However, due to the growing increase in the number of students enrolled in the university each semester, it was created an online system which offers the same information given in the traditional training. This service was developed by a multidisciplinary team of professionals from librarianship, pedagogy and computer science fields and presents textual and multimedia content accessible through the library’s website. Some results achieved so far include: a bigger number of students participated of the training courses, reduction of the workload in the Reference Section at the beginning of the academic semester and the training program is available on a 24/7 basis. Thus, it is concluded that distance education is an effective and efficient system to spread the user orientation service and provide information on the operation of the library.
