Resumo: This essay aims to discuss the sociotechnical perspective as the basis for theoretical development in social technology (TS). To support this argument were analyzed the socio-technical systems originally developed by Trist, Emery and colleagues from the Tavistock Institute, the adequacy of the sociotechnical approach derived from the constructivist perspective technology and hybrid sociotechnical approach proposed by Latour. The central argument is that the development of TS should consider the plots of relationships, in which both social and technical aspects are intertwined in organizations, avoiding the emphases of each and considering the current sociotechnical mediation as the primary unit of analysis in studies of TS. The motivation of this discussion is that the application of sociotechnical approaches, without the apparent equilibrium of sociotechnical mediations, the TS seems to make just one more among many other "alternative" approaches, such as the studies themselves have criticized the area.

Para subsidiar essa discussão foram analisadas a abordagem dos sistemas sociotécnicos elaborada inicialmente por Trist, Emery e colaboradores do Instituto Tavistock; a abordagem da adequação sociotécnica oriunda da perspectiva construtivista da tecnologia e a abordagem dos híbridos sociotécnicos proposta por Latour. O argumento central é que o desenvolvimento de TS deve considerar as tramas de relações, em que tanto os aspectos sociais como técnicos estão imbricados nas organizações, evitando as ênfases de cada corrente e considerando a mediação sociotécnica como principal unidade de análise nos estudos em TS.
