Resumo: Providing the appropriate amount of dietary energy is determining to achieve maximum zootechnical performance. To make this possible, the knowledge of the accurate feed energy values is necessary. However, the majority of the studies conducted to determine feed energy levels are conducted with broiler chickens and, posteriorly, these values are extrapolated to other categories and species of birds. This work was conducted with the objective of determining the values of metabolizable energy of maize and soybean meal for different categories and species of birds. We used a total of 450 birds of different categories, being 36 adult Leghorn cocks, with 36 weeks of age; 72 Isa Brown pullets, with 13 weeks of age; 72 Isa Brown laying hens, with 25 weeks of age; 180 Japanese quails (Coturnix japonica) in growth, with 21 days of age; 90 male Coon 500® chicks in growth, with 21 days of age. The experimental design was completely randomized, in 5 x 2 + 1 factorial scheme, comprised of five categories/species (cocks, chicks, hens, pullets and quails) and two test feeds (maize and soybean meal), with 6 replicates each. The test feeds substituted the standard feed in 40% and 30%, respectively, for maize and soybean meal. We determined the dry matter coefficient of metabolizability (DMCM), crude energy coefficient of metabolizability (CECM), apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and the corrected apparent metabolizable energy for nitrogen balance equal to zero (AMEn). The data were submitted to variance analysis and, when significant, compared by the Scott-Knott test at 5% of significance. There was interaction between the different categories/species and the test feeds for DMCM, with higher DMCM occurring, for maize, in pullets, while, for soybean meal, the highest DMCM was occurred for chicks. There was no interaction between categories/species and test feeds for CECM. The highest values of CECM for maize were superior to those found for soybean meal, and the highest values of CECM occurred for cocks, pullets and quails. There was significant interaction between categories/species and test feeds for AME and AMEn. For maize, the highest values of AME and AMEn were found for cocks, pullets and quails. For soybean meal, the highest values of AME were determined for chicks, cocks and quails and the highest values of AMEn were found for quails. We concluded that more studies are necessary to determine feed energy values, especially for different species and categories of birds.

Para que isso seja possível, é necessário o conhecimento preciso dos valores de energia dos alimentos. Porém, a grande maioria dos estudos realizados para determinar os valores de energia dos alimentos são realizados com frangos de corte e, posteriormente, esses valores são extrapolados para as demais categorias e espécies de aves. Portanto, este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de determinar os valores de energia metabolizável do milho e do farelo de soja para diferentes categorias e espécies de aves. Foram utilizadas um total de 450 aves de diferentes categorias, sendo 36 galos adultos Leghorn, com 36 semanas de idade; 72 frangas Isa Brown, com 13 semanas de idade; 72 galinhas em postura Isa Brown, com 25 semanas de idade; 180 codornas japonesas (Coturnix japônica) em crescimento, com 21 dias de idade; 90 pintos machos em crescimento Coob 500®, com 21 dias de idade. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 5 x 2 + 1, sendo composto por cinco categorias/espécies (galos, pintos, galinhas, frangas e codornas) e dois alimentos teste (milho e farelo de soja), com 6 repetições cada. Os alimentos teste substituírama ração referência em 40% e 30%, respectivamente para o milho e o farelo de soja. Foi determinado o coeficiente de metabolizabilidade da matéria seca (CMMS), coeficiente de metabolizabilidade da energia bruta (CMEB), energia metabolizável aparente (EMA) e energia metabolizável aparente corrigida para balanço de nitrogênio igual a zero (EMAn). Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e, significativos, quando comparados pelo teste de Scott-Knot a 5% de significância. Houve interação das diferentes categorias/espécies e os alimentos teste para o CMMS, sendo que para o milho maior CMMS foi encontrado para frangas, enquanto para o farelo de soja maior CMMS foi encontrado para pintos. Não houve interação das categorias/espécies e alimentos testes para o CMEB, desta forma o CMEB do milho foi superior ao do farelo de soja e maiores CMEB foram encontrados para galos, frangas e codornas. Houve interação significativa entre categorias/espécies e alimentos teste para EMA e EMAn. Para o milho maiores EMA e EMAn foram encontrados para galos, frangas e codornas. Já para o farelo de soja maiores valores de EMA foram determinados com pintos, galos e codornas e, maiores valores de EMAn foram encontrados para codornas.
