Este texto busca problematizar concepções naturalizadas sobre arte e artista popular com o auxílio de Ana Mae Barbosa e Lélia Coelho Frota. As duas autoras fornecem chaves conceituais que ajudam a situar “arte e artista popular” como construções históricas e que acontecem no Brasil no contexto do século XX e tendo o modernismo como importante defagrador para a “descoberta” da arte e do artista popular. Procurei situar concepções das duas autoras, exemplificando visualmente suas proposições e também indicando como a atuação delas contribui para repensar o próprio campo que ajudam a construir. Finalizo o texto encaminhando algumas refexões sobre possibilidades do trabalho com arte e cultura no ensino de arte, especialmente no intercruzamento com os fazeres artisticos e pedagógicos na contemporaneidade.Palavras-chave:  Arte e artista popular. Circuitos culturais.AbstractThis  text  seeks  to unveil naturalized conceptons on art and popular artist with the help of Ana Mae Barbosa and Lélia Coelho Frota. The two  authors  provide  conceptual  keys that help to situate art and popular artist as historical constructons and that take place in Brazil in the context of the 20th century having modernism as an important kickof to the discovery of art and popular artist. The effort made here was to highlight how the two authors outlined conceptons and actons that helped with the constructon  and expansion of popular feld  in Brazil context. I tried to visually exemplify their propositons and also, indicatng how the work of both authors contribute to rethink art and popular  artist field. Concluding the text, based on the  contributions of the authors, I forward some refectons on possibilites of working with “arte of the people” or “peoples visual culture” in art educaton, especially in intercrossed  on contemporary pedagogical and artistc settings.Keywords:  Art and popular artist.
