The definition of quality of life (QL) interposes with the concept of health: well-being in the physical, psychological, socioeconomic and cultural spheres. Among the situations that may interfere with the individual's (QL), the presence of clinical complications resulting from gestational diabetes mellitus DMG has a potentially significant impact, because the greater the number of complications, the worse the patient's quality of life. Objective: To analyze the perception of high-risk pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes about quality of life and nursing care at a referral hospital. Method: A descriptive, qualitative study, developed at a maternity hospital in São Luis-MA, using semi-structured interviews to collect data between the period from January to July 2020. The sample consisted of 10 pregnant women diagnosed with DGM. Results: After analyzing the content, three categories were built based on the guiding questions. Conception about quality of life: For pregnant women, quality of life is causally related to the broad concept of health, the participants reported physical activity, food, employment, structured family and absence of other comorbidities. Interference of gestational diabetes in the quality of life of the pregnant woman: The participants described concerns related to receiving the diagnosis of GDM, the presence of frequent symptoms, changes in eating habits, insulin therapy as a treatment and concerns about the baby's health. The importance of care and interference in improving health: The pregnant women expressed satisfaction with the care received by the nursing team, citing care, emotional support and trust as positive characteristics to the assistance offered. The pregnant women expressed great concern about the health of the fetus, due to the lack of knowledge of the consequences of COVID-19. Conclusion: This study it was possible to understand the conception of pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes about their quality of life, it was noted that in the view of the participants, quality of life is essentially linked to having global health, considering family issues and social life. One of the most prevalent complications of pregnancy is gestational diabetes mellitus (DMG), a double risk factor of COVID-19 and with the necessary social isolation this may have compromised psychosocial issues, depression and consequently the mothers' quality of life, which needs to be deepened in future studies.
