Para tal,utilizaram-se teorias acerca de algumas formas do gênero cômico, tais como a comédia de costumes, a opereta, a revista, a sátira, a farsa e a paródia. Através disso estabeleceram-se aproximações da dramaturgia com os dispositivos e as características típicas de cada uma dessas formas do cômico.
