My Father Kasper and Elena: searching for the other (and for oneself) in Lea Glob’s and Petra Costa’s personal documentaries

Resumo: This paper proposes to examine the short film Meeting my father Kasper Tophat (Lea Glob, 2011), in a diologue with other two films, Elena, by Petra Costa (2009), and Olmo and the seagull, by Petra Costa and Lea Glob (2015). It is observed similarities between those personal films by both filmmakers and how important composition features are as searching the other and oneself as well; the visit to spaces with affective relevance; and the gradual reconstruction of memory. Such analysis is based on film studies (BERNARDET, 2014; LINS; REZENDE, 2010; MATTOS, 1997; ODIN, 2008), narrative (BAKHTIN, 1997; REIS; LOPES, 1988) and self-writing (ALBERCA, 2010; LEJEUNE; 2014).

Il observe des similitudes entre les films personnels des deux cinéastes et l’importance des éléments constitutifs, tels que la recherche de l’autre et d’eux-mêmes; l’utilisation d’images et d’autres dossiers familiaux, tels que des lettres, des journaux intimes et des effets personnels; la visite d’espaces dotés d’une pertinence affective; et la reconstruction progressive de la mémoire. Cette analyse est basée sur des études sur le cinéma (BERNARDET, 2014; LINS; REZENDE, 2010; MATTOS, 1997; MÉRCIA, 2013; ODIN, 2008), récit (BAKHTIN, 1997; ECO, 1994; ROIS; LOPES, 1988) et ses écrits (ALBERCA, 2010; LEJEUNE; 2014).Este artigo examina o curta-metragem Encontro com papai Kasper Cartola (Lea Glob, 2011), em diálogo com os longas Elena (Petra Costa, 2009) e Olmo e a gaivota (Petra Costa e Lea Glob, 2015). Observa similaridades entre os filmes pessoais das duas cineastas e a importância de elementos constitutivos, como a busca do outro e de si; o uso de imagens e outros arquivos familiares, como cartas, diários e objetos pessoais; a visita a espaços dotados de relevância afetiva; e a gradativa reconstrução da memória.
