Resumo: The following paper will debate the thematic of the paintings of laundresses in Eliseu Visconti’s work. In this regard, we will use a set of works the express something that can be named as picturesque landscape, existing in the landscape-painting genre since the end of the XVIII century. Present in almost all the periods of the Viscontian production, the depictions of the laundresses and their clotheslines full of clothes are capable of demonstrating the exquisite color studies conducted by the painter. Between the 19 th and 20 th centuries clothes would be washed both in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro or in the backyard nooks downtown. The laundresses have an undeniable importance in a society that laundering was essential for the house organization that, for Visconti, are converted in pictorial reasons that privilege the plastic study.

Para isso nos utilizaremos de um conjunto de obras que expressam aquilo que pode ser denominado como paisagem pitoresca, existente no gênero da pintura de paisagem desde finais do século XVIII. Presente em quase todos os períodos da produção viscontiana, a representação das lavadeiras e de seus varais repletos de roupas são capazes de demonstrar os primorosos estudos de cor realizados pelo pintor. No entre séculos XIX/XX lava-se roupas tanto nos longínquos arrabaldes da cidade do Rio de Janeiro quanto nos recantos de fundo de quintal da região central da cidade.
