Viajantes, olhares e paisagens no Brasil Setentrional (1800 – 1840)

O artigo tem por objetivo discutir a ideia de paisagem e sua construção a partir do olhar dos viajantes. Almeja-se ainda discutir a constituição das representações nas narrativas de viagem a partir de três diferentes viajantes. João da Silva Feijó, sargento-mor e naturalista encarregado pela Coroa lusitana das investigações filosóficas na Capitania do Ceará, além da descrição e inventário de objetos de História Natural; Henry Koster, comerciante britânico que se instalou em Pernambuco nas primeiras décadas do século XIX e manteve estreitas relações com escritores românticos britânicos; e ainda, o naturalista escocês George Gardner, da Sociedade Filosófica de Glasgow e do Botanic Gardens of Kew. As viagens efetuadas nas Capitanias do Norte do Brasil entre 1800 e 1840 se prestavam a diferentes objetivos e instituições, assim, mesmo atravessando os mesmos espaços, as narrativas e representações das populações, dos lugares e a constituição das paisagens através dos olhares dos três naturalistas aparecem de forma diversa, transparecendo o campo de tensão que se inscreve entre o âmbito coletivo das representações e as marcas individuais que emergem nas narrativas.ABSTRACT: This article aims to discuss the idea of landscape and its construction through the eyes of the travelers. Still, aims discuss the constitution of the representations in the travel narratives, from three different travellers. João da Silva Feijó, sergeant and naturalist in charged for the lusitanic Crown for the philosophical investigations in the Capitaincy of Ceará, besides, he was responsible to make the description and inventory of the objects of Natural History; Henry Koster, Britannic merchant who lived in Pernambuco in the early nineteenth century and kept relationships with Britannic romantic writers; and still, the Scottish naturalist George Gardner, from the Philosophical Society of Glasgow and from the Botanic Gardens of Kew. Their travels, in the captaincies of North Brazil between 1800 and 1840, were made by service of different institutions and had distinct aims, so, even trespassing the same spaces, their narratives and representations of the populations, places and the constitution of the landscapes through their eyes appear in different ways, reveal the tension field between the collective ambit of the representations and the individuals traces, that emerge in their narratives.KEYWORDS: Landscapes, Representations, Travellers.
