As devoções carmelitas na perspectiva global: : a influência das práticas devocionais dos séculos XVI-XVIII na cristandade ocidental

Resumo:  This paper aims to analyze the propagation of the main Catholic forms of devotion that occurred in the 18th century, which were influenced by the Carmelite Order under the precepts of the missionary ideal that moved the Tridentine Church and the instructions of Saint Teresa of Ávila. The success and dissemination of the chief Carmelite devotions are based on their greatest symbol of protection: the scapular. The precepts related to the Carmelite Orders gained prominence in every place where the Order settled, specially Spain, Portugal and the Americas. The impacts of the assimilation of the Carmelite teachings, in particular the ones about the Purgatory, will also be analyzed.   Keywords: Third Order of Carmel; scapular; purgatory.

The impacts of the assimilation of the Carmelite teachings, in particular the ones about the Purgatory, will also be analyzed.   Keywords: Third Order of Carmel; scapular; purgatory. O presente artigo busca analisar a propagação das principais formas de devoção católica difundidas no decorrer do século XVIII, as quais foram influenciadas pela Ordem do Carmo tendo como embasamento os preceitos do ideal missionário que movia a Igreja tridentina e as instruções de Santa Teresa D’ Ávila. O sucesso e a circulação das principais devoções carmelitas têm como fundamento seu maior símbolo de proteção: o escapulário. Os preceitos vinculados às Ordens do Carmo foram ganhando destaque em todos os lugares onde a Ordem se estabeleceu, especialmente na Espanha, em Portugal e nas Américas. Serão analisados também os impactos da divulgação das doutrinas carmelitas, em particular a do purgatório.
