Summary: This article covers the self image that historical brazilian cities have regarding the conservation of their rich heritage. It also covers, on the other hand, the management actions taken for its use in cultural tourism. It comes  from  the  idea  that  the awareness of these cities, observed through the answers gave by public administrators to a questionnaire about the importance of their historical heritage, is  present in almost its totality,  but  the  policy  focused  on the touristic use is small, having few effective actions when it comes to get the city ready to  receive visitors, being almost always restrict to the initiatives that don’t drift far away from the conventional model which characterizes  a non-historical  city.

Trata, también, en cambio, de las acciones de gestión tomadas para su utilización en turismo cultural. Se parte de la idea de que la consciencia respecto a esas ciudades, observada a través de las respuestas a la encuesta hecha a los administradores públicos en cuanto a la importancia de sus bienes históricos, existe casi en su totalidad. Sin embargo, la política de aprovechamiento turístico tiene corto alcance, hay pocas acciones efectivas en el sentido de preparar la ciudad para recibir a los visitantes, casi siempre son sólo iniciativas que siguen el mismo patrón convencional que caracteriza una ciudad no histórica.Este artigo trata da autoimagem que as cidades históricas brasileiras possuem a respeito da conservação de seu rico patrimônio. Trata, também, em contrapartida, das ações de gestão tomadas para a sua utilização em turismo cultural.
