Resumo: This theoretical essay seeks to offer a possible interpretation of the historical origins of leisure in Brazilian society. Starting from the indications of Marxist thought, and unlike a-historical and phenomenological interpretations of the phenomenon, we seek to demonstrate that leisure, as a manifestation of cultural industries, is the result of an expropriation of popular entertainment. In the specific case of the investigation, it is maintained that the repression that has befallen the playful-religious universe of the black man since colonial times was not only a form of social control, but also a primitive accumulation necessary for the further transformation of the free time on a commodity. Which, certainly, in this society of a slave nature, has particularized the process in racial terms. For this, the investigation uses bibliographic, documentary and literary sources. Partiendo de las indicaciones del pensamiento marxista, y a diferencia de las interpretaciones históricas y fenomenológicas del fenómeno, buscamos demostrar que el ocio, como manifestación de las industrias culturales, es el resultado de una expropiación del entretenimiento popular. En el caso específico de la investigación, se sostiene que la represión que ha caído sobre el universo lúdico-religioso del hombre negro desde la época colonial no solo fue una forma de control social, sino también una acumulación primitiva necesaria para una transformación del tiempo libre en una mercancía. Hecho que, ciertamente, en esta sociedad de naturaleza esclava, ha particularizado el proceso en términos raciales. Para esto, la investigación utiliza fuentes bibliográficas, documentales y literárias. Partindo das indicações do pensamento marxista, busca-se demonstrar que o lazer, enquanto manifestação das indústrias culturais, é resultado de uma expropriação dos divertimentos populares. No caso específico da investigação, sustenta-se que a repressão que se abateu sobre o universo lúdico-religioso do negro desde os tempos coloniais não era apenas uma forma de controle social, mas, também, uma acumulação primitiva necessária a ulterior transformação do tempo livre em uma mercadoria. O que, decerto, nessa sociedade de natureza escravocrata, particularizou o processo em termos raciais.
