Resumo: The article makes a brief foray into the leisures of ancient Rome, from the monarchical period, using its literary mentions and modern historical investigations. It tries to show that the Roman civilization coexisted early with the activities of the free time and created mass leisure among the free population, already in the republican period, not only in the capital of the empire, but in all the provinces of its vast territorial domain.

Pretende demostrar que la civilización romana vivió temprano con las actividades de tiempo libre y creó un ocio de masa entre la población libre, a partir del período republicano, no sólo en la capital del imperio, pero en todas las provincias de su vasto dominio territorial.O artigo faz uma breve incursão nos lazeres da Roma antiga, desde o período monárquico, utilizando-se de menções literárias de época e de investigações históricas modernas.
