Resumo: Faced with the expansion of urbanization and the increase of population density in the cities, the public green spaces have acquired the meaning and the role of visual and mental rest. For this reason, this paper aims to understand the relation between spacial functionality and usage suitability in the Solon de Lucena Park, João Pessoa - PB. Conducted through quali-quantitative methods, the study was structured by a bibliographical review of scientific articles that address the use and appropriation of public spaces by its users and the interrelation between human beings, urban parks and nature; on-site visits for exploration and observation; and the production of icons representing the uses found in the studied place.The results point to the diversity of uses, forms of appropriation by users of green leisure spaces, revealing the different social needs manifested in such public spaces.

Por esta razón, este artículo tiene como objetivo comprender la relación entre la funcionalidad espacial y la adecuación de los usos del Parque Solon de Lucena, João Pessoa-PB. Realizado a través de métodos cuali-cuantitativos, el estudio se estructuró en una revisión bibliográfica de artículos científicos sobre el uso y apropiación de los espacios públicos por parte de sus usuarios y la interrelación entre el ser humano, los parques urbanos y la naturaleza; visitas in situ para reconocimiento y observación; y producción de íconos representativos de los usos encontrados en el lugar. Los resultados apuntan a la diversidad de usos, formas de apropiación por parte de los usuarios de los espacios verdes de ocio, revelando las diferentes necesidades sociales que se manifiestan en dichos espacios públicosDiante da expansão da urbanização e do adensamento das cidades, os espaços verdes públicos têm adquirido o significado e a função de “respiro” visual e mental. Por essa razão, o objetivo deste trabalho é compreender a relação entre funcionalidade espacial e adequação dos usos do Parque Solon de Lucena, João Pessoa - PB. Realizado por meio de método qualitativo, o estudo se estruturou em revisão bibliográfica de artigos científicos sobre o uso e apropriação de espaços verdes públicos pelos seus usuários; visitas in loco para reconhecimento e observação; e produção de ícones representativos dos usos encontrados no local.
