CYBERTERREIRO: EMANCIPATING CYBERACTIVISM?

In Belo Horizonte, a movement called Ciberterreiro seeks to reconcile technology and black art, as a way of cultural promotion of Afro-descendant peoples and customs. The importance of the initiative lies in the anti-racist struggle in a country marked by structural racism. In this paper I defend the argument that reconciling technology and cultural expressions, in addition to making invisible people and customs invisible in a context of structural racism, can promote the debate around complex social issues such as inequality and exclusion. However, it is important to point out that knowledge alone, access to technology, increased control and surveillance on the internet and appropriation by the economic scope of artistic and cultural manifestations, which has politically emptied the concepts, and in some cases, making the emancipation process impossible together with the excess of optimism, constitute a challenge to the potential observed in cyberactivism, in the search for emancipation.
