Morphometry of the São Domingos river sub-basin, in the municipality of Muniz Freire (ES)

The objective of this research was to evaluate some morphometric parameters of the São Domingos stream sub-basin (SDSS), in order to support improvements regarding the conservation of natural resources and contribute to raising the potential for the occurrence of environmental problems. The procedures took place in the ArcGIS® program. SDSS was delimited in order to then estimate the parameters: area and perimeter, compactness coefficient, form factor, circularity index, maintenance coefficient, altitude, slope, roughness index, length and number of water channels, extension of the superficial path and drainage and hydrographic densities. SDSS has very low susceptibility to flooding and is well drained. Each drop of water travels around 180 m until it reaches the water channel, favoring surface runoff. The high altimetric and clinometric amplitudes indicate topographic irregularities and potential for erosion, this being the main problem. The maintenance of a denser vegetation cover together with correct agricultural mana- gement practices are important measures.
