Advances in soybean production and productive transformations in beef cattle farming in São Vicente do Sul - RS/Brazil

Complex changes are taking place in the global agrarian scenario, driven mainly by the global economic dynamics. In this contexto, there is a significant role for the grain chain based on a mainly entrepreneurial agriculture, implying a progressive introduction and expansion of monocultures in the Brazilian contexto, especially soybean. In view of this, the objective of this work is to analyze the advance of soy production and how transformations in beef cattle in São Vicente do Sul over the past 25 years. The study stands out as na analytical descriptive, using quantitative instruments to collect and analyze the results obtained by collecting secondary data on sites such as IBGE, Conab, MapBiomas, as well as articles in the area and two interviews with representatives of the Rural Union of São Vicente do Sul and EMATER/ASCAR/RS. The study demonstrated changes in the productive pattern of the municipality and land use, since the native field gave way to soybean culture and subsequent winter pasture. The advance of soybeans is something “without return”, according to the interviewed representatives, and the decrease in bovine heads was not a concern, in view of the creation of heavier and commercialized cattle at a younger age.
