Abstract: The aim of this research was to evaluate the correlation between air temperature and soil temperature at the depths of 5, 10, 30 and 50 cm in Diamantina-MG. The study was carried out in the Campus JK (Juscelino Kubitschek) of the Federal University of Vales do Jequitinhonha and Mucuri (UFVJM), at an altitude of 1387 m, 18 ° 10'S latitude and longitude 43 ° 30'W. Local soils are classified as Orthic Quartzarenic Neosol, according to the Brazilian System of Soil Classification – SiBCS. Hourly mean temperatures were calculated in the months of January and June from 2013 to 2014. Pearson correlation method was used to verify correlation between temperatures of air and soil in the monitored depths. The daily average temperatures for the months of January and June were 19.1 ° C and 15.4 ° C respectively. The t-test indicated significance in all correlations. In January, the Pearson correlation coefficient between the air temperature and soil temperatures at 5 and 50 cm were 0.93 and -0.96, respectively. In June 0.98 and -0.95 for the same correlations. Thus, there is a positive correlation between the air temperature and soil temperature only on the surface and depth of 10 cm, and a negative correlation in the lower layers (30 and 50 cm), this shows the direct influence of the air temperature in surface that generates a gradual flow of heat into the soil. |
