Multicriteria adoption for erosive susceptibility analysis in sub-basins of Serra da Mantiqueira, southern Minas Gerais

Water erosion is one of the main causes of degradation of tropical soils, whose study requires the understanding of some variables, such as relief, land use and occupation, soil classes and the presence of anthropic activities. Most erosion studies are based on the use of empirical models with Geoprocessing and Remote Sensing techniques, which allow the identification of the most erosion prone regions. . This study aims to use multicriteria analysis to identify susceptibility to water erosion in two watersheds located in the Serra da Mantiqueira, southern Minas Gerais, Brazil. For this, a multicriteria analysis was elaborated from three elements: relief, land use and occupation and soil classes. The results showed that the Ribeirão São Bento and Ribeirão José Lúcio sub-basins have erosion susceptibility classified as medium and low, respectively. Thus, the erosion susceptibility map can be used as an efficient tool for sustainable agricultural and environmental planning of the area.
