The Francisco Martins Bastos Engineer Memory Center of the Federal University of Rio Grande – FURG, The established in 1994, has aimed since its inception to engage the academic community and FURG graduates in preserving a part of the University's history. This preservation is achieved by maintaining various research materials within its collections. Consequently, the primary goal of this work was to conduct a diagnostic assessment of the Memory Center. This required mapping the collections housed in the Center and analyzing the gathered information to identify potential gaps, issues, or challenges. Following methodological guidelines for archival diagnosis, it was advised to establish standardized procedures for managing and organizing the collections. Additionally, there should be a focus on developing processes and policies that emphasize management routines, preservation, accessibility, and enhancing engagement with the community. This is crucial given the collection's significance to institutional memory, historical and cultural value, and scientific relevance. Given the data collected, it was found that archival diagnosis is a crucial step in the management of information resources, whose importance is magnified in different environments that require high precision and integrity of data, more precisely in those that deal with the memory of an institution, as is the case with the FURG Memory Center.
