As of the June 2013 manifestations, in which citizens occupied the cities’ streets and voiced their demand for equal access to services and advantages offered by the city, it was found a “new” form of political manifestation, making necessary to analyze the content of the right to political participation with attention to the principle of democratic management of the city. The present juridical-sociological investigation uses the method of theoretical bibliographic research with the objective of developing the definition of an urban right of political participation, from the conceptions of city, citizenship and the right to the city, with the resignification of the “political rights”, according to the content of the principle of democratic management of the city. It was observed that, within the space of citizenship practice that is the city, the right to political participation brings together all the rights that promote the citizens’ influential participation in the government, and the (re)creation of “new” spaces and “new” forms of political manifestation (re)constructs the content and the exercise of the right to political participation itself.
