Teaching academic writing at distance at UFMG: an experience report

In the present report, we describe the work that has been developed in teaching and learning of academic writing at distance at UFMG. We show how the course “Oficina de Língua Portuguesa: Leitura e Produção de Textos”, which has been offered for over a decade for undergraduate students of the university, is planned and executed. We also present the results obtained with this course through the evaluations made by the students who attended to it in previous semesters, and we point its perspectives for the future. At last, we discuss briefly the role of distance education at the university, and we point out the major challenges we still face. We believe that this report may be useful for the dissemination of the work that has been carried out in the university, showing that distance education can be done with quality, and still have a great potential to be developed.
