The mentally handicapped and care to their families: from the point of view of health workers

Resumo: Disturbances both mental as well as behavioral have a considerable impact on these individuals, their families and on the community. The re-insertion of people with mental disorders into the community creates a demand for a solution, from the families whose members suffer from such illnesses. The aim of this study was to learn how health workers involved with the care of people with mental disorders care about the families of these individuals. An analysis of the interviews carried out with these workers showed that the majority do not see it as a part of their jobs to care for these families. According to their opinions, these tasks should be taken on by workers specialized in dealing with families.

According to their opinions, these tasks should be taken on by workers specialized in dealing with families.Los trastornos mentales y de comportamiento ejercen un gran impacto sobre individuos, familias y comunidades; la introducción de portadores de trastornos mentales en la comunidad provoca demandas de la familia hacia los servicios para ayudar a solucionar los diversos problemas que esas personas viven cotidianamente. El objetivo del presente estudio fue aprender cómo los trabajadores del equipo de salud mental cuidan de la familia del portador de trastorno mental. El análisis de las entrevistas permitió identificar que la mayoría de los trabajadores no reconoce como una de sus actividades el cuidar de ellas, atribuye esta tarea a los especialistas en trabajo con familias.Os transtornos mentais e comportamentais exercem considerável impacto sobre os indivíduos, famílias e comunidades, e a reinserção dos portadores de transtornos mentais na comunidade faz com que a família demande resolubilidade dos serviços para os inúmeros problemas que vivenciam no cotidiano. O objetivo do estudo foi apreender como os trabalhadores de equipamento de saúde mental cuidam da família do portador de transtorno mental.
