Nursing ethical issues in intensive care

Resumo: The objective of this study was to understand the actions of nurses in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the face of nursing ethical issues. The data was analyzed from the point of view of sociological phenomenology after obtaining the consent of the participants. The statements made it possible to understand the typical experience of nurses as people who seek to continuously improve the quality of nursing care; who seek recognition, professional validation, the prevention of damage and reoccurrence of events. Nurses believe that the participation of nursing professionals is essential to produce an educational process in the face of ethical events, through eliminating the fear of punishment and providing guidance to health workers involved in these events.

Los datos obtenidos se analizaron según la perspectiva de la fenomenología sociológica, después del consentimiento de los participantes. Los relatos permitieron comprender la experiencia típica de los enfermeros como personas que anhelan mejorar continuamente la calidad de la atención de enfermería; buscan, también, reconocimiento y valoración profesional, prevención de daños y de reincidencia de incidentes. Los enfermeros sostienen que la participación de los profesionales de enfermería es esencial para llevar a cabo un proceso educativo frente a los incidentes éticos suprimiendo el temor al castigo y orientando a los profesionales involucrados en dichos incidentes.O objetivo com este estudo foi compreender as ações dos enfermeiros de Unidade de Terapia Intensiva diante das ocorrências éticas de enfermagem. Os dados obtidos foram analisados segundo a perspectiva da fenomenologia sociológica, após o consentimento dos participantes. Os relatos obtidos permitiram compreender a experiência típica dos enfermeiros como pessoas que almejam melhorar continuamente a qualidade da assistência de enfermagem; que buscam o reconhecimento, a valorização profissional, a prevenção de danos e as reincidências de ocorrências.
