Resumo: This study describes the foundation of the Hermantina Beraldo Nursing School - EEHB - and the strategies used by the first director, Celina Viegas. The period under study runs from the creation of the school, in 1946, until 1968, corresponding to the administration of Celina Viegas. The primary sources include written documents and interviews; then there is the bibliography on the history of Nursing. The description based on the written documents emphasizes some aspects of the foundation, implementation and consolidation of the EEHB, which followed some strategies to control students' activities with regard to discipline, posture and hierarchy. The institutionalized rituals in Brazilian Nursing convey a homogeneous image of the group, which enhances career opportunities.

The institutionalized rituals in Brazilian Nursing convey a homogeneous image of the group, which enhances career opportunities.El principal objetivo de este estudio es describir la fundación la Escuela I de Enfermería Hermantina Beraldo- EEHB - y las tácticas de lucha que la primera directora, Celina Viegas, empleó para consolidar dicha institución en un momento conturbado de la historia política y social del país. El periodo analizado se extiende desde la creación de la Escuela, en 1946, hasta 1968 y se refiere a la gestión de Celina Viegas, primera directora de la EEHB. Las primeras fuentes incluyen documentos escritos, fotográficos y entrevistas donde quedaron registrados aspectos que van desde la fundación hasta su consolidación como institución. Los documentos escritos realzan algunos de los aspectos de este trayecto así como estrategias utilizadas para controlar las actividades de los alumnos en lo referente a disciplina, comportamiento y jerarquía. Además, las costumbres ya institucionalizadas en el campo de la enfermería brasileña transmitían una imagen homogénea del grupo, permitiendo mejores oportunidades en la carrera.Objetivamos descrever a criação da Escola de Enfermagem Hermantina Beraldo (EEHB) e as estratégias de luta da primeira diretora, Celina Viegas. O recorte temporal abrange desde a criação da Escola, ocorrida em 1946, até o ano de 1968, e o período correspondente à gestão Celina Viegas. As fontes primárias incluem documentos escritos e entrevistas, e as secundárias referem-se às bibliografias sobre a História da Enfermagem. A descrição feita a partir dos documentos escritos evidencia aspectos da criação, implantação e consolidação da EEHB, contextualizada por estratégias que visavam controlar as atividades das alunas no tocante à disciplina, postura e hierarquia.
