Epidemiological profile of women who underwent surgery at the gynaecology unit from a university hospital

Resumo: | The present research aims at describing the epidemiological profile of women who underwent surgery at the gynaecology unit of a university hospital in Vitória-ES. It is a cross-sectional study using a quantitative approach. Data was collected through interviews registered in a fill-in form. Samples consisted of 89 women admitted to the obstetrics unit. Data was analysed using SPSS 15.0. The research demonstrated that 39.9% of respondents were between 40 to 49 years old; 30.9% had not completed elementary school; 51.7% were white; 28.1% lived in Serra-ES; 69.7% were married; 62, 9% were in the lower middle class; 62.9% had a paid job, and 29.2% had an income of up to one minimum wage; 44.9% had made use of alcohol and 65.2% were not tobacco users. Menarche in 59.6% appeared between ages 12-14; 57.3% had had their first sexual intercourse at about age 17; 44.9% had had three to five pregnancies; 37.1% had had three to five deliveries, and 65.2% reported no miscarriages. A 29.2% were diagnosed with uterine fibroids, and 43.8% underwent a hysterectomy. Breast self-examination was performed by 58.4% of the interviewees, mammography by 69.7%, and Pap smear test by 93.3%. There was statistical significance between the mammography and the variables age and education. The study displays an economic profile similar to other researches with this population: most women had had mammograms, Pap smear test and performed breast self-examination at some time in their lives. |

Se trata de un estudio transversal, cuantitativo cuya muestra por conveniencia estuvo compuesta por 89 mujeres. La recogida de datos se realizó entre julio y setiembre de 2011, por medio de entrevista con registro en formulario. Los datos fueron analizados por el programa estadístico SPSS 15. El 39,9% tenía entre 40 y 49 años, 30,9% primario incompleto, 51,7% eran de tez blanca, 28,1% residían en Sierra, 69,7% eran casadas, 62,9% pertenecían a la clase C, 62,9% tenía trabajo remunerado y 29,2% tenía un ingreso mensual de hasta 1 salario mínimo. 44,9% ya había hecho uso de bebida alcohólica y un 65,2% negó el uso de cigarro. Se verificó que 59,6% tuvo la menarquía entre los 12 y 14 años, 57,3% coitarquía antes de los 17 años, 44,9% de tres a cinco gestaciones, 37,1% de tres a cinco partos y 65,2% afirmó que nunca tuvo ningún aborto. El 29,2% fue diagnosticado con mioma uterino y 43,8% sometido a histerectomía. 58,4% relató realizar el autoexamen de mamas, 69,7% ya había realizado mamografía y 93,3% Papanicolau. Hubo significancia estadística entre la realización de la mamografía y las variables grupo etario y escolaridad. El estudio presenta el perfil socio-económico similar a otros estudios con esta población, es decir, que la mayoría de las mujeres ya había realizado mamografía, examen de Papanicolaou y examen de mama en algún momento de su vida.O objetivo com esta pesquisa foi descrever o perfil epidemiológico de mulheres, submetidas a cirurgia, internadas no setor de ginecologia do Hospital Universitário de Vitória-ES. Trata-se de estudo transversal, de abordagem quantitativa. A amostra por conveniência foi composta por 89 mulheres. A coleta de dados foi realizada de julho a setembro de 2011, por meio de entrevista com registro em formulário. Os dados foram analisados pelo pacote estatístico SPSS 15. Dentre essas mulheres, 39,9% tinham entre 40 a 49 anos; 30,9%, possuíam ensino fundamental incompleto; 51,7% eram de raça/cor branca; 28,1% residiam na Serra; 69,7% eram casadas; 62,9% pertenciam à classe C; 62,9% possuíam trabalho remunerado e 29,2%, renda de até um salário mínimo; 44,9% já haviam usado bebida alcoólica; e 65,2% negaram uso de tabaco. Verificouse que 59,6% delas tiveram menarca entre 12 e 14 anos e 57,3%, a coitarca até 17 anos; 44,9% haviam tido de três a cinco gestações; 37,1%, de três a cinco partos; 65,2% afirmaram que nunca tinham tido um aborto; 29,2% foram diagnosticadas com mioma uterino e 43,8% foram submetidas a histerectomia; 58,4% relataram que realizavam autoexame das mamas; 69,7% já havia feito mamografia e 93,3%, Papanicolaou. Houve significância estatística entre a realização de mamografia e as variáveis faixa etária e escolaridade.
