Nursing management: a discussion in the light of the ideas of Humberto Maturana

Resumo: We live at a time when intense changes in society demand the redirection of many concepts and practices, especially given that we are in a time of modern reflection. This attitude of review is necessary in management, questioning the foundations, especially considering the need to be sensitive to the role of emotions. Nursing, as a field of knowledge and practice that involves elements of administration, must also reflect on the importance of including emotion in its practice. Therefore, this text reflects on nursing management, seeking to raise issues that make it possible to value, in the light of nursing literature, emotions in the daily routine, as a way of contextualizing and historically placing administrative and management practice in nursing, leveraging points for reflection and discussion based mainly in the thinking of Humberto Maturana. Examining the background of the evolution of teaching and management practice in nursing, we find that bureaucracy, discipline and technical-instrumental rationality predominate. Therefore, including emotion as the foundation of reason, according to Humberto Maturana, is indispensable to contribute to build ethical relationships suitable for a nurse with ethical, political and relational competence.

Esta postura de revisión se hace necesaria en el área de gestión en el sentido de cuestionar sus fundamentos, especialmente considerando la necesidad de poder manifestar más abiertamente las emociones. Enfermería, como campo de conocimiento y de práctica que incorpora conceptos del área administrativa, también precisa reflexionar sobre la importancia de agregar emoción a la práctica. El objeto del presente estudio es reflexionar sobre la gestión en enfermería buscando evidenciar puntos de discusión que permitan valorar las emociones en su día a día como forma de contextualizar y relatar la práctica administrativa en enfermería, reforzando puntos de reflexión y discusión en base, principalmente, al pensamiento de Humberto Maturana. Haciendo una retrospectiva sobre la evolución de la enseñanza y de la práctica gerencial en enfermería, se observa que predominan la burocratización, la disciplina y la racionalidad técnico-instrumental. En este sentido, agregar la emoción como fundamento de la razón, según Humberto Maturana, es indispensable para contribuir a la construcción de relaciones éticas y solidarias coherentes con el perfil de un enfermero con competencia ética, política y relacional.Vivemos um momento em que as transformações intensas na sociedade exigem uma reorientação de muitas concepções e práticas, especialmente levando-se em consideração o pressuposto de que estamos em uma modernidade reflexiva. Essa postura de revisão se faz muito necessária na área do gerenciamento, no sentido de questionar seus fundamentos, especialmente considerando a necessidade de uma abertura à participação das emoções. A enfermagem, como campo do conhecimento e da prática que absorve pressupostos da área da administração, igualmente precisa refletir sobre a importância de agregar a emoção em sua práxis. Assim, neste texto objetiva-se refletir sobre o gerenciamento em enfermagem, buscando evidenciar pontos de discussão que permitam valorizar, mediante a busca na literatura da enfermagem, as emoções em seu cotidiano, como forma de contextualizar e historicizar a prática administrativa e gerencial em enfermagem, alavancando pontos para reflexão e discussão com base, principalmente, no pensamento de Humberto Maturana. Por meio de uma retrospectiva sobre a evolução do ensino e da prática gerencial em enfermagem, verifica-se a predominância da burocratização, da disciplina e da racionalidade técnico-instrumental.
