The caregiver and the attention given to Alzheimer´s disease patients: nursing contributions

Resumo: OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to recognize the care activities provided by caregivers of Alzheimer's disease patients, with a focus on the difficulties faced in the daily home care. METHODS: Qualitative data analysis was performed using the Collective Subject Discourse proposed by Lefévre & Lefévre. RESULT: The results pointed to eight activities provided by the caregiver at home: body, mouth and hair hygiene; feeding, attendance and vigilance, physiological needs; clothing and communication. The main difficulties faced by the caregiver were: the subjectivity of caregiving; the patient's family; and corporal hygiene. CONCLUSION: We conclude that providing care to Alzheimer's disease patients requires knowledge and improvement of emotional skills and strategies, once this activity is immersed in the patient's subjectivity and in the subjectivity of the caregiver himself.

MÉTODO: Los datos obtenidos fueron analizados cualitativamente bajo la luz de los principios recomendados por Lefevre y Lefevre sobre el Discurso del Sujeto Colectivo. RESULTADOS: Los resultados han señalado ocho actividades realizadas por el cuidador en el ambiente domiciliario: hacer la higiene corporal, bucal, lavar, peinar y alimentar, acompañamiento y vigilancia, necesidades fisiológicas, vestuario y comunicación. Las dificultades encontradas por el cuidador han sido subrayadas en 3 aspectos: subjetividades de cuidar/cuidado, familia y cuidado e higiene corporal. CONCLUSIÓN: Hemos concluido que el cuidado brindado a los ancianos portadores de esta enfermedad requiere el conocimiento y perfeccionamiento de habilidades / estrategias emocionales, pues está inmerso en el campo de la subjetividad individual de aquél que cuida y en la propia subjetividad del cuidar/cuidado.OBJETIVO: Conhecer as atividades de cuidado desenvolvidas pelo cuidador e prestadas ao idoso portador de doença de Alzheimer, com vista às dificuldades sentidas no cotidiano da prática de cuidar no ambiente domiciliar. MÉTODO: Os dados obtidos foram analisados qualitativamente à luz dos princípios recomendados por Lefêvre e Lefêvre sobre o discurso do sujeito coletivo. RESULTADOS: Apontaram para oito atividades realizadas pelo cuidador no ambiente domiciliário: higiene corporal, bucal, cuidar dos cabelos, alimentação; acompanhamento e vigilância; necessidades fisiológicas, vestuário e a comunicação. As dificuldades encontradas pelo cuidador foram delineadas em três aspectos: subjetividades do cuidar/cuidado; família e cuidado e higiene corporal.
