Physical activity, mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation

Resumo: Our objective was to analyze the scientific literature available, correlating physical activity, mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation. We searched Medline, Lilacs and Scielo databases, using as key words "psychosocial rehabilitation", "mental health" and "physical activity". We noticed a lack of studies integrating the above mentioned themes, although there has been a gradual increase recently. The existing studies point out the contribution of programmed physical activity for maintaining and restoring general health and promoting mental health. Therefore, it is necessary for Physical Education professionals to be integrated into multidisciplinary mental health teams. Further studies are also necessary, in order to gather data to help enhance evidence-based treatment.

Utilizamos las bases de datos: Medline, Lilacs y Scielo y los descriptores: "rehabilitación psicosocial", "salud mental" y "actividad física". Apesar de haber escasez de publicaciones que integren los temas en foco, se observó aumento gradual de las mismas. Los estudios existentes ponen en evidencia la contribución de la actividad física programada para mantener y recuperar la salud en general y la salud mental. Es necesario, por lo tanto, que el profesional de educación física se integre al equipo de salud mental y que se realicen más estudios al respecto en pro de una asistencia integral basada en evidencias.Estudou-se a produção científica disponível integrando ou relacionando os temas atividade física, saúde mental e reabilitação psicossocial. Foram pesquisadas as bases de dados: MEDLINE, LILACS e SciELO, utizando-se os descritores: "reabilitação psicossocial", "saúde mental" e "atividade física". Embora haja escassez de publicações integrando os temas em foco, percebeu-se um aumento gradativo dessas. Os estudos existentes evidenciam a contribuição da atividade física programada para manutenção e recuperação da saúde em geral e da saúde mental.
